Russian citizens took part Sunday in the third and final day of voting to renew the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, amid attempts by Ukraine to sabotage the voting.

Voting began last Friday. Russia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) said Sunday that nationwide turnout exceeded 45% of the electoral roll. “Currently, more than 45 percent of voters have already cast their ballots across the country,” CEC chairwoman Ella Pamfilova told the press.

The process will decide all 450 State Duma seats for its ninth legislative term, as well as governors in eight regions and more than 20,700 local positions across the country.

President Vladimir Putin described the elections, held from September 18 to 20, as the most significant event in Russian domestic politics.
