Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert. Previous press conference summaries are available here.
**Guanajuato: Homicides Down 75%**In the state of Guanajuato, homicides decreased from 12.7 to 3.2 per day, and high-impact crimes dropped by 43%. President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that this is the result of “addressing the root causes and coordination. We have to keep working. It’s a daily effort.”
Blow to Fuel Theft: 59 Million Liters SeizedThe seizure was the result of a coordinated investigation that revealed the origin and destination of the fuel. Sheinbaum emphasized that “it’s important to us that those involved in the illegal purchase and sale of fuel are apprehended.”
USMCA Remains in Effect: Mexico and the U.S. Make Progress on Trade AgreementFollowing her telephone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Sheinbaum reported that good progress is being made on the agreement and that Mexico seeks to reduce tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles. The USMCA has not formally been scrapped, and efforts are being made to maintain the treaty.
Health: 11% Budget Increase and New InfrastructureThe President confirmed that there is a Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) project for Celaya and that she will review hospital needs in Irapuato. She indicated that there are sufficient resources and that, after decades of neglect, former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador “left behind a better healthcare system than the one he inherited.”
Mexico City–Irapuato–León–Guadalajara Train: Project ConfirmedSheinbaum confirmed that the passenger train will connect Mexico City, Irapuato, León, and Guadalajara. The project has already been designed, and the bidding process will move forward this year. In addition, San Miguel de Allende will have a station on the route to San Luis Potosí.
