On Friday, the United States national soccer team announced its squad for the friendly matches to be played between September and October, marking the start of a new preparation cycle aimed at the 2030 World Cup. Argentine head coach Mauricio Pochettino named a 28-man roster, including 11 players who could make their national team debuts.

Among the new call-ups is 19-year-old forward Justin Ellis, who plays for Orlando City. The player, of Uruguayan descent, is also being monitored by Diego Forlán—the former player who coaches Uruguay’s U-20 team and serves as the interim manager for the senior squad.

The list of potential debutants is rounded out by defenders Peyton Miller (New England Revolution), as well as Neil Pierre and Frankie Westfield (both of the Philadelphia Union). Midfielders called up include Mathis Albert (Borussia Dortmund), Zavier Gozo (Crystal Palace), Adri Mehmeti (Red Bull New York), and Brooklyn Raines (New England Revolution).

Forwards Cole Campbell (Elversberg), Julian Hall (Red Bull New York), and Cavan Sullivan (Philadelphia Union) could also make their debuts. In total, 13 of the 28 players called up participated in the World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The U.S. team will face Peru on September 26 at Inter.co Stadium in Orlando. Subsequently, they will play against Chile on September 29 at Energizer Park in St. Louis. In October, they will take on Mexico on the 3rd at State Farm Stadium in Glendale and conclude the series against Canada on October 6 at Allianz Field in St. Paul.

“This is the start of a new chapter for everyone, and we are excited to have a group of experienced players alongside young talents with great potential for these opening matches,” stated Pochettino.

The coach noted that the process would also focus on establishing common standards within the team. “It will be important for everyone to understand our culture, our way of working, and, of course, the principles of how we want to play. And, above all, they must demonstrate a commitment to representing the country in the way our fans deserve,” he noted.
