The Progressive Party of the Working People (AKEL) of Cyprus will host an international symposium titled “The Left in the Contemporary World” in Nicosia on 7 November, as part of events marking the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of Cyprus–AKEL.
Representatives of fraternal and partner parties from around the world are expected to participate in the meeting, which will focus on major political and social challenges facing the world today and on the role, proposals and prospects of the Left in the 21st century.
The symposium will take place one day after AKEL’s central political and cultural event commemorating its centenary. The anniversary marks 100 years since the founding congress of the Communist Party of Cyprus in August 1926, whose political legacy was subsequently continued by AKEL.
