The United Nations Mission of Inquiry has corroborated evidence of war crimes committed by United States during airstrikes in Iran, highlighting indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure that resulted in significant loss of life.

The United Nations (UN) Mission of Inquiry has confirmed the existence of reasonable grounds to accuse United States of committing war crimes during airstrikes in Iran.

The technical report, presented to the Human Rights Council, documents indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure that resulted in severe human losses.

The independent experts urged Washington to immediately cease violations of international law and compensate the affected parties. The Iranian judiciary, for its part, reaffirmed its determination to coordinate actions to demand accountability and financial reparations for the recorded aggressions.

Indiscriminate Attacks

Amid the ongoing war pitting the U.S. and Israel against Iran, the Fact-Finding Mission reported that U.S. launched “indiscriminate attacks” against two “clearly identifiable” civilian targets.

“The Mission finds reasonable grounds to believe that the U.S. committed the war crime of launching an indiscriminate attack resulting in loss of life or injury to civilians or damage to civilian objects,” the report reads.

Among the analyzed aggression, the impact of Tomahawk missiles on the Al-Shajara Al-Tayyiba primary school in Minab, Hormozgán province, stands out. The attack resulted in the deaths of over 150 people, including 120 minors. Additionally, the mission recorded an aerial attack in Lamerd, Fars province, using tungsten submunitions on residential and sports areas, which left 22 civilians dead.

Further investigations revealed the continuity of bombings on non-military targets since the start of hostilities on February 28. In early September, it was confirmed that a family celebration in the city of Kuhstak was targeted by U.S. munitions, resulting in dozens of casualties.

The multilateral representation requested the urgent cessation of hostilities and the reactivation of negotiation mechanisms to achieve lasting peace in the region. The document also urges the international community to apply the principle of universal jurisdiction to prosecute those responsible for the violations committed.

The report also attributes responsibilities to local Iranian authorities for alleged crimes against humanity linked to the repression of internal demonstrations prior to the conflict. In this context, the mission emphasized the need to ensure impartial accountability mechanisms for all parties involved.
