Over 16,000 mercenaries are operating in Ukrainian ranks, while Russia returns the remains of 252 fallen Ukrainian soldiers.
On Thursday, Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for the Crimes of the Kiev Regime, stated that Latin American citizens make up at least 40% of the mercenaries fighting in Ukrainian ranks.

“The origin of the mercenaries has changed drastically. While initially they were Polish, Baltic, British and American, now probably more than 40% at the forefront come from Latin American countries,” he said, adding that more than 16,000 so-called “volunteers” are operating in Ukrainian ranks.
“These ‘volunteers’ are foreign mercenaries, since they are there not to fight for the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine, but to make money or gain military experience,” Miroshnik said.
He also mentioned that the number of “volunteers” has declined, as up to 40,000 mercenaries had previously been fighting for President Volodymyr Zelensky’s regime. A few weeks ago, the Colombian government asked Ukraine to stop recruiting its citizens for the war and requested their return.

Russia Returns Remains of 252 Fallen Soldiers to Ukraine
On Thursday, Russian military authorities confirmed the return of 252 soldiers killed in combat whose bodies had remained in the possession of the Russian army.
The handover was carried out with the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The remains will now be identified and then handed over to the families of the deceased.
This transfer of bodies is the first between Russia and Ukraine since U.S. mediators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kiev on Sept. 5 and 6. These types of meetings usually involve agreements on exchanges of bodies and prisoners of war.
