The plan includes the assessment of more than 200,000 citizens for potential mobilization.
On Thursday, the Polish Defense Ministry revealed that its country plans to call up more than 300,000 reservists and recruits in 2027, including professionals and volunteers.

The plan provides for 20,000 new positions in the professional military service, 6,500 more than last year, as well as 200,000 reservists and 83,700 personnel in auxiliary corps. The measure includes the call-up of more than 200,000 citizens to assess their capabilities and assign them to a military unit in the event of a mobilization.
It is the largest call-up in recent years and will affect men and women up to 60 years old, who will be required to report to their assigned recruitment center to have their physical capabilities and knowledge assessed. They will then become reservists and be provisionally assigned to a military corps.
Failure to appear without justification or refusal to attend the call-up can result in anything from a fine to being sought and escorted by police to the recruitment center, under the Homeland Defense Act.

If military authorities deem it appropriate, some of those reservists will be required to undergo training for up to 90 consecutive days.
This strategy reinforces Warsaw’s stated ambition to build Europe’s strongest land army. Currently, the Polish armed forces already have more than 220,000 personnel, compared with 130,000 before the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
The goal of Polish authorities is to reach 300,000 active-duty military personnel and up to 500,000 including reserves by 2039.
To finance the increase in personnel in the armed forces, the defense budget is expected to amount to around 4.8% of GDP in 2026, compared with 4.7% in 2025. For 2027, the Polish state estimates spending at approximately 4.5%.
