On Wednesday, Colombian authorities found the five occupants of the Cessna T-206 aircraft (registration HK-4985)—which had crashed last Sunday in the country’s central-western region—deceased. The confirmation was made by Abelardo de la Espriella via his account on the social network X.

The aircraft had taken off from Condoto Airport in the Chocó department, bound for Guaymaral Airport in Bogotá. The final contact with authorities was recorded at 9:23 a.m. local time (14:23 GMT) over a wooded area between the Chocó and Risaralda departments, where the wreckage was ultimately located.
According to official information, the five individuals had traveled to the region the previous Thursday to participate in a health outreach mission staffed by specialists, providing care to residents of the municipality and neighboring localities.
The official expressed his condolences: “With deep sorrow and sadness, I confirm to the nation the discovery of the Cessna T-206 aircraft… which crashed while flying the route between Condoto, Chocó, and Guaymaral, Bogotá.” He also offered prayers that “comfort, serenity, and strength” be bestowed upon the victims’ families.

For its part, the Colombian Medical College lamented the incident, highlighting that the event “demonstrates the commitment” of healthcare workers who bring medical care to remote areas.
The Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC) deployed a team of rescuers specializing in combat search and rescue. Due to the terrain conditions, General Luis Miguel Díaz, commander of Combat Air Command No. 5, explained that “the slope of the terrain is very steep; the helicopter cannot land… so it was necessary to insert them using a rescue hoist.” The teams were equipped with cold-weather gear and supplies to operate in the area for up to three days.
