Venezuela and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are working together to rebuild the country after the devastating double earthquake that struck on July 24.
Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, met with Michelle Muschett, the regional director of the PNUD, to discuss the recovery efforts after the deadly earthquakes that hit the country last June.
Rodríguez highlighted the coordinated efforts between the Venezuelan government and the UNDP, noting that the plan includes not only infrastructure reconstruction but also human development.

Acting President Rodríguez thanked the UNDP for its immediate response and ongoing support, which has been crucial in designing the recovery roadmap. She expressed confidence that the Venezuelan people will see the benefits of this collaborative effort in the form of improved infrastructure, job opportunities, and better services.
Muschett’s visit to Venezuela includes meetings with local communities, authorities, and allies to express solidarity and coordinate recovery efforts. On Monday, she met with the Vice President of Public Works and Services, engineer Juan José Ramírez, to discuss the progress of the recovery plan known as Plan Venezuela Renace. Ramírez presented the technical advancements of the Plan Despeje Digno y Seguro, noting that multidisciplinary teams are working around the clock to clear debris and restore affected areas.
Muschett expressed the UNDP‘s commitment to supporting Venezuela’s post-earthquake recovery, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration.

The Safe Clean Plan has made significant progress, with 720,129.71 cubic meters of debris removed and processed, equivalent to 792,000 tons, representing over 37% of the cleanup effort. Muschett proposed that the UNDP not only lead the development efforts but also serve as a technical cooperation platform, integrating various actors to rebuild with prevention, adaptability, and community resilience in mind. In this sense, Acting President Rodríguez emphasized the importance of international collaboration for both immediate and long-term support of the communities affected by the earthquake.
The strategic plan, developed in coordination with all Venezuelan ministries, focuses on rebuilding infrastructure, creating jobs, and enhancing essential services.
