
The renovated facility at the Arvelo National Rehabilitation Institute is expected to serve more than 1,600 patients a month.
On Tuesday, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez led the reopening of the “Lenin Molina Peñaloza” Orthotics and Prosthetics Laboratory, part of the Jose Arvelo National Rehabilitation Institute.

The optimization of this specialized area will consolidate care for more than 1,600 patients a month, adding to the impact generated between 2020 and 2024, a period during which the lives of thousands of families were transformed following the delivery of 8,000 prostheses and 10,000 orthoses nationwide.
With an estimated average of 480 orthotic and prosthetic fittings per month, the modernized facilities have specialized infrastructure to ensure a highly precise manufacturing and fitting process.
The laboratory has rooms for stump impression taking, plaster and mold work, baking and socket fabrication, machinery, a digital lathe, saddlery and prosthesis assembly.
The facility manufactures, repairs and fits lower- and upper-limb prostheses, KAFO braces, corsets and foot orthoses, as well as repairs various assistive devices.
The laboratory has a multidisciplinary team of 44 health professionals and specialists, including 25 physical therapists, eight physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, five physical medicine and rehabilitation residents, three orthotics and prosthetics assistants, two licensed orthotists and prosthetists, and one therapy assistant.
Founded in 1974, the Jose Arvelo National Rehabilitation Institute offers a wide range of specialties addressing physical, sensory and cognitive health, including physical therapy and occupational therapy, phoniatrics, audiometry, ophthalmology, a low-vision unit, visual typhlotechnology, a disability clinic, psychology, ozone therapy, and cardiovascular and respiratory therapies.
With the reopening, the institution reaffirms its mission to restore mobility and improve the quality of life of its users, promoting their full social and occupational integration.
