Moscow considers the proposal a ‘very good idea’ but accuses Kiev of attacking a Russian refinery.
On Thursday, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, declined to confirm that Russia has accepted the energy truce in Ukraine announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

“We saw President Trump’s post about the energy truce. In general, we undoubtedly consider it a very good idea,” he said, adding that Moscow “is always on the side of peaceful solutions.”
Peskov accused Ukraine of attacking one of Russia’s energy infrastructures overnight, specifically a refinery in the Samara region, which was confirmed by Kiev. He also rejected Trump’s assertion that the rise in oil prices has been caused by the war in Ukraine and not by the U.S. war on Iran.
“Ensuring the safe operation of refineries and increasing the production of petroleum products does not solve the world’s problems, because the problem, the main problem, is the entry of those products into the world market,” Peskov said.

To that end, he said it is necessary to allow “safe navigation” for oil tankers, in addition to lifting illegal sanctions on Russian exports. Russia would then be able to “fill” the world with petroleum products and “prices will fall.”
“The Kiev regime is not in favor of guaranteeing that security. Not only our oil tankers are suffering, but also those of other countries. And people of other nationalities are dying,” Peskov said.
Trump, who spoke by phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin last week, announced Monday on his Truth Social network: “Ukraine has agreed to not attack Russian energy targets. Russia has agreed to do the same!” In the same message, Trump stressed that “the increase in the global price of diesel is mainly due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, not Iran.”
Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky responded almost immediately that Kiev would suspend the attacks only if Moscow did the same. Nevertheless, both sides continued their attacks overnight against refineries and gas stations.
