Every day, President Claudia Sheinbaum gives a morning presidential press conference and Mexico Solidarity Media posts English language summaries, translated by Mexico Solidarity’s Pedro Gellert. Previous press conference summaries are available here.

Housing for Those Who Have Never Been Able to Afford ItHousing policy transforms lives: 5.17 million homeowners are no longer burdened with unpayable loans; 52% of the new homes are for women, and 88% are for those earning up to 1.5 times the minimum wage. “It’s about accessing a right,” President Claudia Sheinbaum explained.

Decent Housing and Secure PropertyThe goal is to issue at least one million property deeds, providing certainty to families who have gone without them for up to 30 years. In addition, Constitutional Article 4 recognizes adequate housing as a right. The Infonavit and Fovissste housing agencies have regained the authority to build housing for the people.

Entry-level Housing vs. SpeculationThe President charged that some governments are driving gentrification through corruption and violations of land-use and zoning regulations. This is the case with the Real Estate Cartel in the Benito Juárez borough in Mexico City. In response to this situation, Sheinbaum indicated that “we are building entry-level housing.”

Sovereignty: Mexico Is No One’s Punching BagSheinbaum noted that “the vast majority of Mexicans are against foreign intervention. We will always defend the principle of non-interference.” Indeed, polls show that 91% of Mexicans oppose foreign intervention.

The People, Sovereignty, and National PrideMore than 300,000 people have accompanied the President in her visits around the country in which she reports on the balance sheet of government activity and future plans. “When a people recognizes its strength and its history, there is nothing that can stop it,” Sheinbaum declared.
