The public’s palpable distress around the “War on Terror”—worsened by fearmongering from conservative talking heads and opportunist politicians—laid the groundwork for intensified cultural obsession with disaster preparedness, and the monster that emerged as the perfect symbol amid this fear and obsession was the pop culture zombie.
