“No place for racism!” Students at Lincoln-Way East High School walked out of class on Wednesday in response to racist harassment hat took place the week prior. On Friday, LWE students hurled racist slurs and made monkey noises at Homewood-Flossmoor students during a football game. Then, on Saturday, students overheard a LWE cross-country coach tell their student-athletes to run “past those monkeys.” Chicago was home to many similar student walkouts in response to Operation Midway Blitz and subsequent attacks on the city by ICE and federal authorities.
