On Thursday, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) organized tributes for Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered a year ago during a public event at Utah Valley University (UVU).

The commemorative event will feature speakers linked to the conservative Republican movement, while student groups denounce the institution for supporting Kirk’s ideas and his organization.
The protest was called for by the group Students for a Democratic Society, which urged demonstrations against TPUSA, the university administration, and local authorities in Utah County.
Kirk, who identified with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, was the founder of one of the most influential youth right-wing organizations in the U.S. and a close ally of President Donald Trump.

His murder occurred within a context of political tension, also marked by assassination attempts against Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. The Republican Party will pay tribute to Kirk at the closing of its national convention in Texas.
The White House remembered him as a “champion of freedom,” while Vice President JD Vance hardened his rhetoric against far-left groups, blaming them for the shooting that took his life.
Meanwhile, Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the day of the assassination “one of the darkest” in the state’s history and called for unity, condemning political violence and the role of social media.
