Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard called the U.S. commerce chief’s meeting with Sheinbaum cordial as both countries prepare a fourth round of USMCA review talks this month.

Mexico City. The dialogue between U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will be useful for trade negotiations between the two countries, said Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, head of the Secretariat of Economy.

The official said, through a message on his account on the social network X, that the meeting his U.S. counterpart held with the Mexican president was “cordial.” “I estimate it will be very useful for the ongoing trade negotiations with the United States,” said Ebrard Casaubón, who earlier indicated that Lutnick had been unable to travel to Mexico due to adverse conditions.

In addition, the head of the Economy Secretariat announced that this Thursday he will meet with the U.S. negotiating team in Washington “to keep advancing.” The official did not yet indicate the dates on which the fourth bilateral round of the USMCA review will take place, which is so far expected to be held this month.

Both Mexico and the United States agreed to continue with the fourth round of the bilateral USMCA review in the first weeks of September. So far, the dates to continue the dialogue have not been defined.

Mexico and the United States also maintain other negotiations to resolve their various trade disputes, such as the one related to vehicles, steel, and semiconductors.
