The Anduril Dive-LD is an expensive drone capable of carrying out intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations.

On Tuesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) captured a U.S. underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz, where the vehicle was conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.

“The naval forces have captured one of the most modern and intelligent unmanned submarines of the U.S. terrorist army at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz,” the IRGC said, adding that the capture of the drone occurred during “a complex intelligence operation at dawn.”

The Anduril Dive-LD autonomous vehicle incorporates the world’s most advanced technology in the field of underwater exploration and was delivered to the U.S. Navy’s Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Squadron One (UUVRON-1) in 2025.

“The 5.8-meter U.S.-made underwater drone can operate autonomously for up to 10 days and dive to depths of 6,000 meters. Its modular payload system allows it to perform ISR, undersea reconnaissance, mine warfare and seabed-mapping missions,” DD Geopolitics posted on the X platform.

On Tuesday, the IRGC also announced that Iranian air defense forces destroyed two advanced MQ-1 Predator drones over the skies of the Strait of Hormuz.

Over the past week, in a new attempt to take control of the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump has intensified the U.S. war on Iran with attacks against Iranian territory and vessels. For its part, the Persian nation has responded with attacks on U.S. targets and ships in the Middle East.

In one of the latest attacks, U.S. forces killed five people at a wedding in the town of Sirik, in what Tehran denounced as a “war crime.”

In response to the U.S.-Israeli offensive of Feb. 28, Iran has kept the Strait of Hormuz blocked, paralyzing nearly all oil exports from the Gulf in a year in which Trump is vying to retain control of the legislative branch in the midterm elections.
