The fire began on Saturday in the village of Berlin and spread rapidly toward the La Estancia and El Roque sectors.
A forest fire in Abrego, a municipality in the department of Norte de Santander, has consumed more than 3,000 hectares of vegetation, causing agricultural losses and threatening the region’s water sources.

Mayor Huber Sanchez reported that the fire was intentionally set and appealed for public awareness, while the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Northeastern Border (Corponor) is leading the investigation to identify those responsible for the blaze.

Sunday night was especially critical, with strong winds fanning the flames and endangering water sources, which increased concerns about the environmental impact and the safety of rural communities.
Residents like Luzary Jacome described tense moments due to the lack of adequate machinery and equipment, noting that volunteers, farmers, and the Civil Defense of Abrego have faced the emergency with limited resources.
In recent weeks, Colombia has faced a series of forest fires, some deliberately set, exacerbated by the drought resulting from El Niño, affecting large regions of the country.
