On Monday, the trial for the murder of former Argentine rugby player Federico Martin Aramburu, killed in Paris in March 2022, began with two far-right activists in the dock.

The defendants are Loik Le Priol, tried for murder, and Romain Bouvier, tried for attempted murder. Both are linked to the disbanded far-right group GUD, which has a history of violent attacks in 2015.
In the early hours of March 19, 2022, after an argument in a cafe on Boulevard Saint-Germain, Aramburu and his friend Shaun Hegarty were attacked. According to the investigation, Bouvier fired the first shot from a van, and Le Priol finished him off on foot.

The text reads, “Los Pumas join the call for justice for Federico Martin Aramburu (PUMA No. 623). Together with his family, keeping his memory and legacy alive. Today and always, all of Argentine rugby is united for Fede.”
Le Priol fled to Hungary, attempting to reach Ukraine, while Bouvier was arrested in the Sarthe region. The past of both men will also be examined, as they were previously convicted of a group attack, in which Le Priol was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Meanwhile, Aramburu’s family and the Argentine rugby community are keeping his memory alive. Before the match against Australia in Mendoza, the Pumas players wore black shirts with the message “Justice for Fede,” a tribute on the eve of the trial.
Aramburu earned 22 caps for France and was part of the team that won bronze at the 2007 World Cup. He spent much of his career in France, particularly in Biarritz, where he lived and owned a tourism business.
In addition to the defendants, Lyson Rochemir, Le Priol’s partner, will be tried for complicity, and Antony Sorrentino, Bouvier’s friend, will be tried for helping him hide and dispose of the weapon.
