Dave Ramsey Says Capitalism’s Failings Are Actually Your Fault

Dave Ramsey is one of the most prominent people talking about economics and personal finance in the U.S. today. His flagship program, the Ramsey Show, is a gigantic talk-radio phenomenon, with an estimated 20 million listeners across various platforms. Ramsey’s personal finance company, encompassing the syndicated radio show, bestselling books, and affiliated financial counselors, employs over 1,000 people. An outspoken Christian, he speaks to a huge network of mostly Protestant churches, giving personal finance lectures and directing listeners and parishioners to his network of endorsed finance consultants. After 34 years on the air, Ramsey is a beloved daily fixture of working- and middle-class people’s media environment across the country. Unfortunately, Ramsey’s actual advice is callous, mathematically dubious, and totally misunderstands how people end up in dark financial waters.
