At least seven members of the Central General Staff (EMC), one of the largest FARC dissident groups, died in military operations in Nariño, according to the far-right Colombian president, Abelardo de la Espriella.

“In the last 24 hours, seven narco-terrorists from the Franco Benavides front of the Central General Staff, of the FARC dissidents, died in military operations in El Peñol, Nariño, and five people were captured,” the president detailed on his X account.
The Ministry of Defense indicated that at least twelve people were wounded in the operation, in which an M4 rifle, a pistol, eight homemade grenades, 946 cartridges of different calibers, five banners of the criminal structure, and three notebooks with information of interest to the authorities, among other things, were seized.
The president assured that since his mandate began on August 7, his Government has achieved “14,914 captures, 49,379 kilos of drugs seized, 1,485 firearms out of circulation, and 1,320.9 hectares of coca eradicated.”
Since he began his presidential campaign, De la Espriella promised a “hard hand” against criminals, which has led to several bombings in recent weeks, some of which have resulted in the deaths of minors.

As a result of an operation in late August in the department of Guaviare (south-central), ten members of a FARC dissident group were killed, three of whom were minors: two of them were 15 years old and the other was 16.
Various social sectors in Colombia have expressed their concern and criticism towards President Abelardo de la Espriella. This arises from the dissemination of images where the president displays the bodies of individuals who lost their lives during a recent military operation.
The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, has been strongly criticized for a video in which he is seen walking among the bodies of alleged FARC-EP dissidents killed in San José del Guaviare.
The images, disseminated after Operation Azarías on August 30, show the president next to the bodies and seized weapons, which has been described as an unnecessary spectacle and “necropopolitics.” The way the video was recorded, combining shots of the president with aerial images of the bombing, has been compared to Donald Trump’s communication strategy in his anti-drug operations.
The president of Colombia, Abelardo De la Espriella, has ended dialogue and negotiation spaces with Comuneros del Sur, an ELN dissident group in Nariño, and with the armed structures of Medellín and the Aburrá Valley, known as the “combos paisas.”
This decision implies the withdrawal of government negotiators and the cancellation of spokesperson status for members of these groups. In the case of Comuneros del Sur, its leader has been prioritized for extradition to the United States. Regarding the “combos paisas,” the measure is complemented by the transfer of 117 of their leaders to high-security prisons.
