The Necessary Journalism Movement recognized communication workers in various categories.
On Thursday, the Necessary Journalism Movement (MPN) announced the winners of the 17th edition of the Anibal Nazoa Award after reviewing journalistic work produced by Venezuelan communicators between May 2025 and May 2026.

The Necessary Journalism Movement is an organization founded to promote the practice of social communication grounded in ethics and the defense of sovereignty.
The MPN foundation created their awards in honor of journalist, writer and humorist Anibal Nazoa, who stood out in Venezuelan communications and literature in the 20th century for his sustained work in chronicles, opinion, and humorous essays.
“His work used irony and the dismantling of everyday absurdity to examine the country’s social, political and cultural dynamics,” the CiudadCCS outlet recalled.

The text reads, “Mysteries of History: The Myths of Mermaids. Mysteries of History premieres an episode about the origin and evolution of one of the most fascinating stories in world history: mermaids, creatures that have permeated centuries of mythology, art, and popular culture. The program unravels how different civilizations interpreted these sea beings—from ancient Greece to Caribbean legends—and reveals the possible real encounters that fueled the myth. Every Friday on the YouTube channel @multimediadelsur.”
This year, the Anibal Nazoa Award was presented to 38 communication workers who stood out in different categories of journalistic production. Three of those awards were given to teleSUR and its team.
The MPN foundation awarded teleSUR the prize in the “Institutional Journalism” category for the publication of the book “The Eye of America in the World: 20 Years of Combative Journalism.”
In the “Television” category, the award was presented to historian and journalist Eduardo Rothe for his eloquence and distinctive style in hosting “Mysteries of History,” a program broadcast across all of the digital platforms of teleSUR.
The Necessary Journalism Movement also presented an award to teleSUR cartoonist Uncas Montilla “for transforming cartoons into a tool of mass struggle.”
In the 2026 Anibal Nazoa contest, awards were also presented to dozens of journalists, including Juan Romero, for his work “Dialectics of Dignity: Jan. 3 and the Reengineering of the Bolivarian Revolution”; Joel Ochoa, for photographs documenting the participation of the people in the streets following the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro; and Hindu Anderi, for her steadfastness in defending the Palestinian people.
