An increasingly paranoid Nigel Farage has been accused of talking up ‘conspiracy theories’. It came in a tense exchange with a BBC interviewer in which Farage complained everyone is out to get him:

Paranoid or deflective?
Farage is famously undergoing a parliamentary investigation over a £5m ‘gift’ he failed to declare. As we previously reported:
Farage accepted the £5m gift from [Christopher Harborne] — a crypto billionaire — in 2024. At the time, he’d said he wouldn’t run in the general election, but this changed after he received the £5m. The problem is that after he became an MP, he was supposed to declare any ‘registrable benefits’ from the previous 12 months. Farage did not declare the £5m, and now it looks like he was purposefully trying to hide it.
There’s good reason to suspect that Farage received this £5m gift for political purposes. Notably, because he went on to shill for the crypto industry. And as we reported:
It also later emerged that Farage had seemingly agreed to return to politics before accepting the gift, adding to the evidence that the cash lump sum was political. Add to this the fact that Farage reportedly spoke aboutwanting £1 million a year to return to politics (and he then received a £5 million gift just before the start of a new five-year parliamentary period).
The parliamentary committee investigating Farage is comprised of Labour, Conservative, and Lib Dem MPs; there are also seven members of the public. In the BBC interview, Farage claimed the parliamentary investigation won’t give him a fair hearing. In other words, he knows this all looks inexcusable, and he’s trying to muddy the waters.
“Complainant society”
Another matter that came up was a Met Police investigation into large donations Reform received. As the BBC reported in July:
Police are investigating payments to Reform UK by a company controlled by the party’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, BBC News has learned.
Britain Means Business gave the party two donations of £250,000 in the run-up to the 2024 general election, when Tice was party chairman.
Tice has said the money was given to his firm by Fiona Cottrell, a significant donor to Reform UK and mother of a convicted fraudster with close links to Nigel Farage.
When asked about all this, Farage said:
we live in a complainant society
It’s certainly true that Farage complains a lot; especially when people look into his finances. He added:
If you complain about me, automatically that triggers an investigation. So we’re under investigation every day for virtually everything we do, because the other political parties are constantly writing to all the authorities.
It’s funny that he would say this, because he complains and writes letters all the time, and yet they don’t usually trigger police investigations:

Perhaps he’s suggesting the police are in on this grand conspiracy? We’re certainly sympathetic to the idea that elements of the establishment close ranks in response to outsider politicians; we just don’t think this means Farage’s activities are on the level.
He also said:
There is a whole ecosystem with a century of development around this, and we come along from virtually nowhere and threaten the whole thing.
So I think what you’re seeing is the establishment, in a very coordinated way, fighting back. But do you know something, it isn’t going to work.
This was how the BBC*‘s*Chris Mason responded:
Doesn’t that sound a bit conspiracy theory-like? This ‘the whole world’s out to get us’ stuff.
Just because you’re paranoid, that doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you. We’ve reported that the billionaire-owned British press turned on Farage, but that seems to be because Reform keeps embroiling itself in financial scandals; not that these scandals are being fabricated out of thin air:
To the billionaire classes, Farage does not seem like a safe pair of hands. And that’s understandable. Because everything those hands touch turns into scandal.
The walls are closing in on Farage
Farage has a good reason to be paranoid, and that’s because his hopes of becoming PM seem to be dying. In part, this is because everyone is gunning for him. The reason they’re gunning for him, though, is because he and his party attacked first. And the reason the counter-attacks are working is because they seem to have merit.
