On 2 September, two Palestinian teenagers have been shot dead by Israeli occupation snipers in al-Mughayyir, an isolated village in the occupied West Bank during a brutal settler attack. The killings occurred days after Israeli occupation forces (IOF) — protecting settlers — shot and injured four other residents of the village. Attempts were made to resuscitate both victims; however, they were pronounced dead on arrival at Ramallah Hospital.

Israeli snipers murder Palestinian teens
On the same day, a settler group attacked al-Mughayyir, stealing sheep belonging to two families. The settlers then left, only to return under the cover of darkness, accompanied by police, border guards, and the IOF. This time, a house in the middle of the village was occupied. Snipers then set up on its rooftop, while the settlers continued stealing sheep.
A resident of al-Mughayyir, whom we will call Alaa, tells the Canary:
“We heard the people in the house crying and screaming, because they were beating them. Most of the villagers were on the street at this time, confronting the army. Both guys who got shot were in front of their homes. Khalil, the child, saw the army so was running away. That’s when they shot him in the back. Omar didn’t know there were snipers, and was shot as he was coming out of his house. They were both shot literally within a minute or two of each other, although they were both in different streets.”

Unrelenting settler attacks are traumatising residents
Alaa also shared the following with the Canary:
Every house right now is crying. All the village is mourning. We know these people personally. Omar just finished high school and was celebrating. His family is very poor, and had worked really hard to afford the university fees. He was supposed to start university in a couple of weeks, so his family were celebrating this. Omar and Khalil were both such nice guys. They would never hurt anyone. That’s the sad part. They are shooting people who are totally peaceful, and were doing nothing wrong. It is literally a massacre.
They want to kick us out of the village. So, every time, they shoot multiple people. A few days ago they shot four people but none of them were killed, so they came back today to kill. I really, really think the plan is to ethnically cleanse the village of all of us, and I actually think at some point they will succeed. People are helpless right now. You have the army, the settlers, the police, and the police guards all armed and attacking us, but literally no one in the village can defend themselves. Now they are shooting anyone in sight.
Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers have killed nine residents of al-Mughayyir since 7 October 2023. Six of these were killed in 2026 alone, further underlining the traumatic impact of repeated settler violence on the community.
