Mexico City. Foreign Affairs Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez will make a working visit to the People’s Republic of China on September 7, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (SRE) reported on Wednesday through its account on the social network X.
During his stay, the foreign minister will hold a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi. As part of his agenda, Velasco will also inaugurate the Consulate of Mexico in the city of Chongqing.
[The visit] will make it possible to strengthen the political dialogue and the cooperation agenda between the two countries.

The trip adds to previous meetings between representatives of the two foreign ministries. In May 2025, within the framework of the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the CELAC-China Forum, then foreign minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente met with Wang Yi, an occasion on which both officials highlighted the relationship of respect between Mexico and China and the shared interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
It will be Velasco’s second trip to Asia in recent weeks, as he visited South Korea from August 23 to 25.
