Just Stop Oil has returned after previously announcing they were “hanging up the hi-vis” in March 2025. As Andy Burnham prepared to take his first prime minister’s questions on Wednesday, roughly 60 activists from the group blocked a road outside. A “significant number” glued themselves to the tarmac at Parliament Square, the group said. At least a quarter of the activists had been arrested as of 1pm. The group say that they have left one lane free to permit access for emergency vehicles. The group has reemerged as part of a campaign to pressure Burnham to block drilling for new oil and gas in the North Sea. “Andy Burnham, we are crying out for leadership," said Trish Fitzmaurice, a mother from Norfolk who was arrested today. "The climate crisis is the biggest threat humanity has ever faced. We are destroying our only home by burning fossil fuels. Oil and gas mean death.”
