Hundreds of Argentinians rallied outside the house-arrest residence of former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on Tuesday, chanting for her freedom as she greeted from the balcony on the fourth anniversary of a 2022 assassination attempt against her.
Addressing the crowd, Máximo Kirchner, the former president’s son and a legislator, thanked the parties that endorsed the document “Democracy does not accept the elimination of the adversary.” He pressed the Justice system to move forward in prosecuting the intellectual authors of the Sept. 1, 2022, attack, noting that the investigation was never properly deepened.
Kirchner argued that his mother is not banned, but rather that those who wish to vote for her are. He cited a pending presentation before the United Nations as a potential avenue to restore the former president’s political rights.

The legislator later shifted to economic matters, tying the judicial case to decisions made under her governments regarding YPF and Vaca Muerta. He criticized those who opposed those policies at the time but now applaud the resulting outcomes. He asserted that Peronism built the current energy surplus, alluding to critics who once lamented over Starbucks coffee prices while now celebrating the administration’s fiscal balance sheet.

The militancy reiterated its rejection of President Javier Milei’s policies, describing them as a constant degradation of living conditions. Kirchner linked the economic crisis to rising mental health issues, warning that the crisis does not discriminate based on political affiliation or party membership.
Looking ahead to 2027, the La Cámpora leader suggested an opening for Peronism, stating that the movement has an opportunity to once again generate a proposal that embraces millions of Argentinians.
