Cuban authorities received Open Arms activists at the Havana International Cruise Terminal on Monday afternoon, marking the NGO’s second solidarity shipment to the island since its initiative began in July.
The sailboat “Astral,” which departed Cancún on August 29, carried a cargo of seven tons of medical supplies and powdered milk destined for hospitals in the capital.

The flotilla, named “Rumbo a Cuba,” is backed by Mexican solidarity organizations and hospital institutions from the Latin American country, with the stated aim of breaking the economic blockade imposed by the United States.

Open Arms founder Óscar Camps addressed the press upon arrival, emphasizing the significance of Cuba’s current situation for the organization’s members. He explained that after the July mission, the team had witnessed firsthand the shortages in local hospitals and, rather than concluding the effort and returning home, chose to come back precisely because they now knew exactly what was needed and could take action.
The reception included Vice Governor of Havana Reinol García, Vice President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples Noemí Rabaza, and a representative of Mexico’s diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba.
