A taxi rigged with explosives detonated outside the Los Patios police station on Monday night, wounding one auxiliary officer and sending three civilians to hospital, authorities confirmed.
The blast caused severe structural damage to the facility and cut off electricity in the affected area of the municipality, which borders Cúcuta, the capital of Norte de Santander department.

Investigators have opened a formal inquiry to identify those responsible for the attack.
The incident echoes a previous car-bomb explosion on July 31 near the Norte de Santander Police command in Cúcuta, which injured at least eight officers and three civilians and was followed by additional detonations.

Norte de Santander hosts several illegal armed groups, including the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla and Front 33 of the FARC dissidents.
