A mining businessman was kidnapped in Peru on a public road in the city of Trujillo during the early hours of this Sunday. He was intercepted by attackers in police uniforms who immediately killed his four companions, the National Police reported.
The incident occurred when the now-kidnapped man and his companions, including two women, were traveling in the businessman’s high-end vehicle through the center of Trujillo, the capital of the La Libertad region, after leaving a nearby nightclub.
The car was intercepted by the attackers a few meters from the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dirincri) of the Peruvian National Police, wearing uniforms similar to those of the Special Group Against the Fight Against Organized Crime (Grecco), according to witness reports.
Among the four murdered were the businessman’s partner, Andrea Monzón Lingan, as well as Nadia Edith Urtecho Rodríguez, Luis Alberto Rojas Ramos de Rosas, and Christopher Eduardo García Álvarez.

The abducted businessman has been identified as Jenss Marty Lara Tantaquilla, 31, who apparently is involved in the buying and selling of gold in the turbulent province of Pataz, an enclave of illegal mining declared an emergency zone by the Government due to the activity of various criminal organizations vying for control of the mines.
Serious incidents have previously occurred in this area, such as the massacre of thirteen people who were allegedly guarding one of the mine entrances in April 2025.
Lara Tantaquilla was arrested in 2020 during a large operation against illegal mining called ‘Los topos del frío’ (The Moles of the Cold), which aimed to dismantle four family clans dedicated to the illicit extraction and commercialization of gold in the province of Pataz.
On that occasion, a total of 17 arrests were made, including two foreign nationals of Chinese origin, and up to 220 kilograms of allegedly illegal gold were seized, valued at that time at around 10 million dollars.
In statements to journalists, the head of the Police in the La Libertad region, Ricardo Espinoza, confirmed that the attackers simulated a police operation and that the kidnapped man’s companions resisted his abduction, which led the criminals to open fire and kill them.
Espinoza detailed that the police uniforms used in the kidnapping were discarded in another part of the city along with the kidnapped man’s clothes, which were also found in the same location.
