Did you know that Notting Hill Carnival was founded by a communist? Claudia Jones was a journalist who was deported by the US for her politics. When she arrived in London, her response to racial violence was to set up a festival celebrating arts and culture that has survived the years. Jones also created the UK’s first major black newspaper and joined the Communist Party of Great Britain. Micha Frazer-Carroll explores her legacy in this video, first published last year.
