More than 50 artists will perform the complete version of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on stage.
On Thursday, the National Ballet of Panama celebrated its 55th anniversary with a performance of the complete version of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a cultural milestone for the country.

Gloria Barrios, director of the National Dance Company, explained that this production represents “the culmination of a dream,” after years of efforts to bring the complete work to the Panamanian stage.
The choreography is by French choreographer Sophie Sarrotte, associated with La Scala in Milan, who offers an adaptation that emphasizes “dramatic intensity” and recreates the atmosphere of Renaissance Verona.
The production is under the artistic direction of Sasa Adamovic, leader of the National Ballet of Panama since its founding in 1972, which has established itself as the country’s leading classical dance company.

The text reads, “The National Ballet of Panama will present the full version of Romeo and Juliet for the first time in the country, from August 27 to 30 and from September 3 to 6, at the National Theater of Panama. Tickets will be available through Panatickets.”
Performances will take place at the National Theater until August 30 and from September 3 to 6, accompanied by the Panama Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Joshua Dos Santos.
Rafa Navarro’s set design will recreate Verona’s squares, streets, and palaces, while the costumes will evoke Renaissance Italian aesthetics, reinforcing the production’s historical accuracy.
More than 50 artists will perform on stage, alongside international guests such as Nicolai Gorodiskii and Agustin Pereyra. Meanwhile, Sergei Prokofiev’s music will accompany the tragedy of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet.
