Demonstrations against Subianto’s policies continued in Jakarta, with civil groups presenting 10 demands to his administration.
On Friday, Indonesian police reported that one protester died and more than 300 were detained during protests against the policies of the former Gen. Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta.

During a demonstration the previous day, the Police Medical Division evacuated a man who was found unconscious and took him to a hospital, “but he died while receiving treatment.”
After Thursday’s demonstrations ended, police officers intervened to stop “vandalism” and “destruction” by “rioters” who “disturbed public order” and arrested 322 people, according to Jakarta Police spokesman Budi Hermanto.
The protests continued Friday in the capital, with the participation of several civil society organizations, including the Movement for Popular Demands (GERAM), which is presenting 10 demands to the Prabowo administration.

Among the demands is the elimination of a free school meals program that has caused food poisoning in more than 40,700 children in about 300 outbreaks, the latest of which occurred Aug. 14.
The initiative, funded with US$28 billion and controversial since its launch because it is financed at the expense of other public programs, has provided meals to about 30 million students between the ages of 6 and 18 and aims to reach 80 million.
Another demand from the protesters is that the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the island of Flores in mid-August and left about 100 people dead be declared a “national tragedy.”
The ongoing protests coincide with the first anniversary of the violent demonstrations against a pay increase for Indonesian lawmakers, which claimed the lives of seven people last year.
