Acting President Delcy Rodríguez on Thursday announced a new environmental recovery initiative and toured a Caracas school, as she linked the domestic reconstruction effort to a broader global climate emergency.

The plan, dubbed Venezuela Renace Ecológica, was formally requested by her during Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting. Its scope includes attention to watersheds, soil remediation, and intervention wherever deemed necessary.

Acting president Rodríguez framed the initiative as a response to “times of climate emergency,” and called on citizens to make a collective effort to show nature the care it deserves. She also addressed the recent tragedy along the Nepal-China border during her conversation with journalists.

On the domestic front, the acting president inspected recovery works at the Juana Bautista Pacheco Cáceres National Educational Unit, in Catia’s Los Magallanes sector. The facility’s rehabilitation currently stands at 96% completion, ahead of the scheduled September 14 start of the 2026–2027 school year.

Acting president Rodríguez further detailed the broader impact of the June 24 seismic doublet, noting that 1,019 schools were affected nationwide, with 11 either collapsing or left on the verge of collapse. She emphasized the need to intervene and bring them up to standard for the return to classes, adding that nothing has halted the recovery effort.
