In this week’s segment, we hear about the crisis in northwest Indiana, including the city of Gary, where residents have gone up to two weeks without power after a storm. As in the rest of the country, a supposedly public utility, which is actually a corporate entity, failed to meet public needs in a time of crisis, as did the region’s elected representatives. But we begin with a veteran independent journalist who is running for Congress as a Green Party candidate in Maryland. We discuss what is wrong with journalism, including its ties to state directives, and how he plans to activate voters and legislate should he be elected.
