Honduras’ former Electoral Councilor Marlon Ochoa demanded that Fernando Cerimedo, recently detained in Bolivia, answer before Honduran justice for organizing the electoral coup that brought conservative Nasry Asfura to power.
Honduras’ Former Electoral Councilor Marlon Ochoa said the right-wing businessman had a close tie with the conservative National Party to carry out the electoral coup in the December 2025 elections, when, with the complicity of the United States, that political force altered the results, prevented the popular victory and illegitimately cut off the process of social transformations underway under the leadership of the Liberty and Refoundation Party (LIBRE, in Spanish) in Honduras.

Through the social network X, Ochoa assured that Cerimedo was part of the electoral coup. He said messages issued by the digital strategist, who advised Argentinean President Javier Milei and Bolivian Rodrigo Paz, were among the files he delivered to then attorney general Johel Zelaya to prove how the Honduran right and the Trump administration stole the elections.
“Cerimedo is an international criminal, an electoral filibuster in Latin America, sheltered under the cloak of Donald Trump’s impunity and he allows himself to sail like a pirate through our countries,” Ochoa said, making clear that “there is no perfect crime” and that the digital strategist must answer before Honduran justice.

Text reads: “There is nothing hidden between heaven and earth. The voice of Fernando Cerimedo, an adviser to the National Party, appears in the audio files I handed over to the Attorney General @jaza_hn December 23, 2025. He identifies himself as stating that they put votes for Nasry Asfura in certain ballot boxes; that they drew votes that did not favor them; that they already have aligned themselves with the Armed Forces; and instructs them not to accept the vote-by-vote count. (…)”
According to Ochoa, the complaint he filed with the Public Ministry during the electoral process includes audio material in which Cerimedo refers to the incorporation and removal of votes that did not favor certain candidacies at the polls. It also contains accusations about an alleged attempt to align the Armed Forces and the deliberate instruction to prevent a vote-by-vote recount.
Ochoa noted that although the Public Ministry and Zelaya announced the start of investigations, the Supreme Court of Justice allowed the greatest fraud in the democratic history of Honduras once it suspended the investigation at the request of councilors Cossette López-Osorio and Ana Paola Hall, who held licenses deemed illegal and were later rewarded with ambassador posts after Asfura came to power.
Impunity Denounced
Marlon Ochoa recalled that attempts to kill him have not ceased because he denounced the fraud, and that, as they did with former prosecutor Zelaya, the right-controlled Parliament subjected him to political trial and disqualified him. At the head of the legislature today is Tomás Zambrano, a right-wing politician who helped organize the electoral coup.
He also criticized the resolution issued by the Supreme Court, which he called “aberrant and unprecedented,” ordering the suspension of the criminal investigation at the request of the members of the National Electoral Council, López-Osorio and Hall.
Ochoa questioned the Council’s declaration that proclaimed Asfura the winner of the presidential contest. He recalled that he voted against that agreement and that the proclamation was made without counting all the records or processing the challenges presented. In his view, that violated the rights of candidates for mayorships and deputy seats.
The demand for accountability now extends beyond Bolivian courts, where Cerimedo faces other proceedings. The former electoral official insists that the evidence he delivered remains valid and that the institutional chain that allowed the alleged fraud, from the council to the high court, has yet to be reversed. The case keeps Honduras at the center of a regional battle over electoral integrity.
