Israeli restrictions worsen the humanitarian situation as aid trucks await authorization to enter the enclave.
On Thursday, Fatma Meriç Yılmaz, president of the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay), denounced that access to food and clean water remains difficult in Gaza.

Yılmaz visited the Egyptian port of El Arish and Red Crescent warehouses to oversee the shipment of assistance destined for the Palestinian enclave and assess needs on the ground.
Accompanied by Türkiye’s ambassador to Cairo and a delegation, the Red Crescent president also traveled to the Rafah border crossing.
Yılmaz recalled that ensuring the civilian population’s access to aid is an obligation under international humanitarian law and regretted that restrictions continue to worsen the humanitarian situation. She said 600 aid trucks were expected to enter after the cease-fire. However, only about 100 trucks have managed to access the Palestinian territory.

Currently, 160 trucks carrying assistance sent by the Turkish Red Crescent by sea remain awaiting authorization to enter Gaza. The organization distributes hot meals and drinking water, supports health services and channels part of its supplies through the so-called Goodwill Ships via the port of El Arish.
During her stay in Egypt, Yılmaz also visited Palestinian patients from Gaza who are receiving treatment in Cairo and announced a support program at the Palestinian Red Crescent Hospital, with a budget of about US$66,500.
Since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza in 2023, restrictions on border crossings have severely hindered the movement of people and the entry of humanitarian assistance. So far, Israeli forces have killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and wounded 174,000 people, mostly women and children.
