PAKISTANI authorities began their probe today into the devastating fire that killed 14 newborn babies in a hospital nursery in the capital, Islamabad.

The fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences early on Wednesday spread so quickly that the two doctors, two nurses and other staff present were able to rescue only one baby among the 15 in the nursery.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed the investigating committee, led by retired federal secretary Shahid Khan.
