Just like it has in other parts of West Asia, Israel has implemented every aspect of its policy of ethnic cleansing in Lebanon. Mass killings, the demolition of houses and infrastructure, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people have not stopped, despite near-constant ceasefire negotiations between the US-backed Lebanese state and Netanyahu’s government.

Just a few days after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun confirmed the continuation of talks with Tel Aviv, the Israeli army expanded its operations in different areas of southern Lebanon.

During the past ten weeks, Israeli forces concentrated their operations and raids on the strategic Ali al-Taher heights in the eastern sector, and on routes leading to Bint Jbeil in the central sector.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army continued to launch strikes and heavy artillery shelling across southern Lebanon, including the municipalities of Majdal Zoun and Al-Mansour, alongside the village of Bayt al-Sayyad in the coastal city of Tyre, over the weekend.

Considerable damage to residential buildings and the use of phosphorus shells were reported in the assaults.

Israel demolishes home of Al-Akhbar’s Ibrahim Al-Amine

A video circulated online on Saturday, August 22, showing Israeli bulldozers destroying the home of journalist Ibrahim Al-Amine, the owner of Al-Akhbar newspaper and chairman of its board of directors, in his hometown of Shaqra in southern Lebanon.

According to media reports, the demolition of Al-Amine’s house was carried out as part of a broader operation of house demolitions and bombings in many towns of southern Lebanon.

On Sunday, August 23 two 17-year old teenagers were killed when a drone targeted their motorcycle in the Doha Kfar Rummane area, near Nabatiyah. However, their bodies were recovered on Monday, August 24, after their families had lost contact with them for a day.

For many, Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon sends a clear message to the Lebanese state that it is not interested in talks, especially as Netanyahu’s far-right government bets on perpetuating the regional war to win the upcoming elections.
