On Monday, the South African Police confirmed the arrest of four people in connection with the murder of former world boxing champion Zolani Tete, who was shot last Friday in front of his home in Mdantsane.

The first detainee was arrested on Saturday and charged with murder and attempted murder, the latter charge for the injuries caused to a 27-year-old woman who was accompanying Tete.
Three other suspects, two aged 27 and one aged 28, were arrested on Sunday and will appear in the Mdantsane Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man remains a potential witness.
Tete competed between 2006 and 2022, winning the super flyweight (2014-2015) and bantamweight (2017-2019) world titles, establishing himself as one of South Africa’s most prominent boxers.

In 2017, he obtained the Guinness record for the fastest knockout in a title fight, beating Siboniso Gonya in just 11 seconds, which made him an international boxing benchmark.
The boxer was sanctioned in August 2023 for doping, a suspension that ended on July 29, allowing him to plan his return to the ring this year.
With a record of 29 wins and four losses, Tete was considered an athlete with a great career, with aspirations of competing again on the professional circuit after overcoming the sanction.
