Cable Car Line 4 Will Be Ready in December 2027; “It’s a Social Justice Project,” Sheinbaum Says

Sheinbaum inspected Mexico City's Cable Car Line 4, due in December 2027 that will cut the Tlalpan–Ciudad Universitaria commute from two hours to 40 minutes.

Mexico City. Cablebús Line 4 “is a social justice project because it is dedicated to giving those who have the least the best transportation,” President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo maintained this Sunday, during an inspection of the works at the Universidad station, near Ciudad Universitaria. Accompanied by Mexico City Head of Government Clara Brugada, the federal president reported that the project registers 20 percent progress and is expected to be completed in December 2027.

“The Cablebús is a mobility project that reduces travel times, is safe, and helps —while you are on the route— to see the city from above, which calms you, allows you to meditate, and keeps you out of traffic,” she stressed.

Cablebús Line 4 will connect the upper area of the Tlalpan borough with Ciudad Universitaria, in the Coyoacán borough, in order to reduce people’s travel time from two hours to 40 minutes, on average. Sheinbaum Pardo also emphasized that it will help many students who commute daily to the country’s largest university.

“Imagine, for the students who live in Tlalpan, even in Coyoacán, in the Cantera area, well, it’s going to be very, very important to be able to get to CU, and, moreover, here, well, it’s a transportation distribution hub —trolleybus, metro, buses. So it’s an extraordinary idea, how the route of the Cablebús was designed,” she noted.

For her part, the Head of Government pointed out that the three Cablebús lines currently operating in the capital —driven, she stressed, by Sheinbaum when she led the city government— make 40 million trips a year. Regarding the new line, Brugada explained that it will have nine stations along 11 kilometers, and will feature 390 cabins.

“It is estimated that from the highest point down to here, at the Universidad metro station, it will be 40 minutes; travel times are cut by 50 percent, and with that we deliver territorial justice, we deliver justice in time, because it is those who live farthest away who spend the most time and the most resources, and who today will be the beneficiaries. This project, as we know —because what you did in the city is not new— fought inequalities, so it keeps fighting inequalities,” she said.
