US, Mexican, and Guatemalan immigration authorities deported 30,965 Hondurans between January 1 and August 20, 2026, the director of the National Migration Institute (INM), Carlos Cordero, reported this Saturday.

The official told reporters that 27,828 Hondurans have been deported by air from the United States alone, and 3,046 from Mexico, sent in buses. Those returned from Guatemala, also by land, total 91.
He added that Honduras has also received 374 Mexican migrants deported from the United States, as part of a migratory cooperation mechanism that allows citizens from other countries to be transferred to Honduran territory.
Another 31 Mexicans will arrive in Honduras today, noted the head of migration, who also pointed out that the Honduran authorities are coordinating actions so that the deported Mexicans can “return to their homes.”
Some Honduran sectors have warned that as a result of the definitive suspension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which benefited some 55,000 Hondurans who lived irregularly in the United States, a massive deportation could occur.
In this regard, Honduran Foreign Minister, Mireya Agüero, ruled out last Tuesday that there would be an immediate massive return or a severe blow to remittances, while the government chaired by Nasry Asfura manages an “orderly transition” with Washington.
She added that the termination of TPS for Honduras “is a reality with concrete effects,” after the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) confirmed in September 2025 the cancellation of the benefit, a decision that was subsequently subject to appeals and legal actions.
Honduran migrants abroad, mainly in the United States, send home family remittances that exceed 10 billion dollars a year, according to official figures.
