In India’s “Cockroach” Protests, I Saw Democracy Resurrected

On Sunday, July 19 in New Delhi, India, a whole generation prepared to commit a crime. Young people were coordinating on digital safety, anonymity, clothing, health, their meeting points, and many more factors to ensure they were successful, or at least safe. For many it was their first time, and hence they felt fear, yet they remained resolute. For others, they have nothing left to lose; they are in any case merely insects who were stepped on. The crime? A peaceful march to the parliament. The demands? Accountability. Democracy. Freedom.
