New York City is on verge of ending a huge chunk of Amazon’s exploitation. Right now Amazon technically doesn’t employ tens of thousands of drivers. These drivers officially work for other companies, but in reality those companies function like Amazon subsidiaries. This loophole lets Amazon get away with not being responsible for all of these workers — who are exposed to unsafe working conditions and experience numerous accidents and injuries. Now the New York City Council is close to closing that loophole, and Zohran Mamdani is throwing his weight behind the legislation too.
