“It’s not right. We gave our whole life to them.” On August 13, Tyson Foods abruptly announced the closure of their Joslin, Illinois and Eagle Mountain, Utah plants, laying off more than 3,400 workers overnight. BT spoke to employees and their families in Joslin to hear how the closure of their plant is impacting them. In Joslin alone, around 2,500 employees – some of whom had worked there for decades – were left jobless. The closures are an apparent violation of federal law. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires covered workers to provide 60 days notice in the event of a mass layoff or plant closure.
