Venezuela’s second National Popular Consultation of 2026 will be held on Oct. 18 instead of the previously planned date, according to acting President Delcy Rodriguez.

The change was addressed during a videoconference meeting with the Popular and Communal Government System. She said Oct. 12 is a public holiday for the Day of Indigenous Resistance, which she called “a day of struggle for Venezuela.”

The Popular Consultation is a direct democracy mechanism that allows Venezuelan communities to decide on their investment priorities. Rodríguez invited the Bolivarian people to prepare for the presentation of projects from communal circuits and condominium boards.

She also welcomed the renewal process of the communal councils and their spokespersons, saying it helps strengthen organization in the communities.

The consultation was originally scheduled for July 12 but was suspended due to the twin earthquakes that shook Venezuelan territory on June 24. The first edition of the direct democracy mechanism this year was held on March 8.
