Former Bolivian President Evo Morales demanded Tuesday that the State Attorney General’s Office carry out a transparent investigation into Fernando Cerimedo, a former adviser to Argentinian President Javier Milei, after lawyer Nadia Beller denounced the existence of an elite police group intended to capture him in the Cochabamba Tropics.
Beller, Cerimedo’s former wife, survived an armed attack on Monday and is recovering from several bullet wounds in a hospital. In an interview with DTV, she accused Cerimedo of planning the attack against her life and leading a special group of the Bolivian Police that operates outside formal structures.
“That elite group is the one he commands and controls, and it answers to absolutely no one. Only to him,” she said, adding that the unit planned to enter the Cochabamba Tropics within a week to capture Morales.
Bolivia’s authorities detained Fernando Cerimedo as he attempted to board a flight to Buenos Aires.

Beller said she had been summoned to receive alleged legal information. “They supposedly summoned me to give me a case about Evo Morales involving the rape of a 13-year-old girl who had died,” she said from the hospital.
Morales backed the victim on X and recalled previous threats from Cerimedo, whom he identified as a personal adviser to President Rodrigo Paz. He said one of the two threats occurred on May 14, when Cerimedo, quoting a post by Morales on X, wrote the word “tick tock” at the end of an aggressive message. “As if time were running out on my life. Now we understand why,” Morales said.

Morales stressed the seriousness of the lawyer’s account and said she detailed several acts of corruption, including fuel deals with people linked to the U.S. CIA and gold, among others. He added that she also said the presidential adviser leads a special elite group of the Bolivian Police with which they had planned to intervene in the Cochabamba Tropics in the coming days.
The former president called on the Public Prosecutor’s Office to provide protection to the complainant and extend the investigation to the authorities named.
