The Cuban delegation received its flag at the José Martí Memorial to compete in the VI Pan American Youth Games for the Deaf, which will take place in Guayaquil. The ceremony paid tribute to the National Hero and to Fidel Castro Ruz, in the centennial year of his birth.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman Waugh; the President of the Cuban Paralympic Committee, Omara Durand Elias; and the President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), Osvaldo Vento Montiller. Also present were leaders from the Communist Party of Cuba, the government, the Union of Young Communists, and the National Association of the Deaf.
During the ceremony, athletes Ibelice Marrero and Andy Amador laid a floral offering. Next, multi-medalist Suslaidy Girat placed the national flag in the hands of Rolando Yero Travieso, who then handed it to flag bearers Keyla Alejandra Revé and Grabiel Ernesto León, escorted by Ariagni Álvarez and Luis Alberto Machado.

The text reads, ” Cuba on its way to the VI Pan American Youth Games for the Deaf in #Guayaquil2026 Ibelice Marrero will compete in the javelin, shot put and discus throws in her first international competitive experience.”
Runner Katerine Garzón read the team’s commitment, stating their willingness to “uphold the values of an inclusive sport that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz made a right of the people, with discipline, respect for the opponent, and fair play.”
Nayda Elisa Díaz Luis, general secretary of the National Union of Education, Science, and Sports Workers, affirmed that “deaf sports in Cuba are no longer an aspiration, but a consolidated reality.” She asserted that participation in the continental event “will undoubtedly strengthen the international recognition of Cuban deaf sports and open new doors for regional cooperation.”
