During the event, Marilyn Garbey, president of the Association of Performing Artists, commemorated the company’s history. Garbey noted that the CFN is part of the country’s cultural tradition and evoked the figure of the intellectual Rogelio Martínez Furé (1937-2022), who always valued the ties between UNEAC and the company. According to the president, both institutions defend the most authentic traditions of culture and identity.

As part of the celebration, Marta Bonet, president of UNEAC, presented the Arte Fiel award to the CFN’s director, Leivan García Valle. This award was established to recognize creators and groups that have contributed to the organization’s development over the past 65 years.

The distinction also celebrates the organization’s significant impact on national culture during the centennial year of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).

Garbey emphasized that the Cuban National Folklore Center (CFN) keeps dance and music expressions alive in its repertoire. He also noted that the group recently received the status of National Cultural Heritage, in recognition of its sustained work in developing stagecraft and exploring the essence of Cuban identity, achieving success on stages both locally and internationally.

The performance, titled “Caminos” (Paths), incorporated historical pieces. The performance brought together pieces that have become hallmarks of the CFN’s history, fusing the verses of Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) and Nicolás Guillén (1902-1989) with the dances and rhythms that define the group.

The presentation was attended by Lizette Martínez Luzardo, Vice Minister of Culture; Rachel García, President of the National Council of Performing Arts; as well as intellectuals from the organization and the general public.

The UNEAC was founded in 1961 with Guillén as its founding president. For its 65th anniversary, the institution is celebrating with a wide range of activities, including exhibitions and theoretical discussions to showcase the development of artists and cultural projects.
