The Israel’s occupation launched new raids and armed attacks against southern Lebanon this Monday, killing 4,346 people and wounding 12,301 others since the offensive began on March 2.

Local media denounced that the Zionist entity used artillery fire, fighter jets, military engineering vehicles, and machine guns while intensifying its attacks against the civilian population in the districts of Tyre, Bint Jbeil, Nabatieh, and Marjeyoun.

These incursions constitute a crime under international law and form part of the occupation’s colonialist plan in the region.

According to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Israeli occupation fired an average of 137 projectiles daily against the Levantine country between August 5 and 16. The organization denounced that the attacks are having a direct impact on the civilian population.

The mission reported that the escalation reached its peak during the weekend, with 208 projectiles counted on Saturday and 185 on Sunday. The intensity of the bombardments reflects a deliberate pattern of aggression against communities that have already endured months of continuous attacks.

UNIFIL highlighted that it remains on Lebanese territory with the objective of guaranteeing the reduction of risks associated with explosive devices. Likewise, military personnel are carrying out the clearing of key land routes to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the affected communities.

Resolution 1701 Remains Key

For its part, the international mission insists that UN Resolution 1701 is the only legal path to recover border stability. This agreement, adopted by the Security Council in 2006 after Israel’s aggression against Lebanon -which was defended tenaciously by the Lebanese Islamic resistance movement Hezbollah- dictates the definitive end of hostilities and defends the territorial integrity of Lebanon.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed in a statement that at least 4,346 people have died and 12,301 have been injured in the country since March 2, when the Israeli army began its offensive. The figures reflect a sustained campaign of violence that has disproportionately affected civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.

The continued violation of Resolution 1701 by the Israeli occupation exposes the weakness of international mechanisms to guarantee compliance with UN mandates and the protection of sovereign states in the region. The escalation also reveals the complicity of certain powers that shield the occupation from accountability in international forums, including the repeated use of the veto in the Security Council.

The humanitarian situation in southern Lebanon continues to deteriorate as the attacks hinder access to basic services such as health, water, and electricity. International organizations have warned that the displacement of families and the destruction of infrastructure aggravate the suffering of communities that already face severe economic difficulties.

While UNIFIL documents the daily bombardments and calls for compliance with Resolution 1701, the lack of effective enforcement mechanisms leaves the Lebanese people exposed to a campaign of destruction that shows no signs of abating. The defense of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the protection of its civilian population remain urgent priorities for the region and for all nations committed to justice and the rights of peoples under occupation.
